As I sit down to reflect on the incredible journey of Cinnamon Sticks Designs, I’m filled with immense gratitude and joy. This November marks the 26th anniversary of my beloved jewelry brand, and what a beautiful journey it has been so far! From humble beginnings in our bedroom to a thriving business that celebrates love in all its forms, Cinnamon Sticks Designs has truly been a labor of love.

A Journey Rooted in Love
Twenty-six years ago, I welcomed my first daughter into the world, and I got my business license selling at art fairs as a single mom. Then 21 years ago, my husband and I welcomed our third child into the world, and I decided to leave my job in pediatrics to dedicate my time to our growing family. Watching my children explore the world around them, crawling, climbing, and discovering new things each day, reminded me of my own childhood curiosity and wonder.
From a very young age, I was captivated by the beauty of rocks. As soon as I had learned to walk, I pocketed every rock I could find, especially if it shimmered. At five years old, a family friend who was a jeweler let me try on a 6-carat pear-cut diamond ring. That moment ignited a spark in me to create jewelry from anything I could find—bits of wire, cloth, twigs, or grass. Little did I know that this childhood passion would evolve into Cinnamon Sticks Designs.
Turning Passion into Artistry
Balancing motherhood with my creative ambitions was no small feat. With three children at the time, I began sketching jewelry designs in a simple notebook and setting up a makeshift workshop in our bedroom. Determined to turn my dreams into reality, I taught myself metalsmithing and the art of firing clay. My dedication paid off when I discovered Etsy in 2008, providing a platform to showcase my handcrafted pieces to a broader audience.
Trying to balance motherhood and entrepreneurship
Those early days were filled with countless sleepless nights and hundreds of caramel lattes as I pounded silver into rings and bracelets. Slowly but surely, Cinnamon Sticks Designs began to take shape. My workshop has since outgrown the tiny table in the bedroom, but every piece of jewelry remains uniquely handmade, infused with the love and dedication that started it all.
Milestones and Memories
One of my most cherished memories is selling my very first piece of jewelry—a simple beaded necklace with a flower made from the same beads and wire. I sold it to a friend in high school for $5. The feeling of someone choosing to buy something I made with my hands was incredibly rewarding and affirmed that I was on the right path.
My First Necklace Design
Opening my first brick-and-mortar shop, in August of 2019, was another monumental milestone. Waking up each day to create with my hands is immensely fulfilling, but seeing Cinnamon Sticks Designs in a physical space where customers could see, touch, and experience my jewelry was a dream come true. It solidified my commitment to the craft and to building a community around the brand.
Balancing Motherhood and Entrepreneurship
The biggest challenge I’ve faced in this journey has been balancing the roles of a devoted mother and a passionate business owner. Managing to be a good mom while juggling the demands of running a business is a constant balancing act. It’s not a challenge that’s ever fully overcome; instead, it’s about having the willingness to constantly pivot and adapt. This resilience has been key to the success and longevity of Cinnamon Sticks Designs.
Connecting Through Craftsmanship
What sets Cinnamon Sticks Designs apart is the deep connection I strive to build with each customer. Every piece of jewelry I create is more than just an accessory; it’s a symbol of love and connection. Every time I receive an email from a customer sharing what the piece of jewelry I crafted for them means to them, I feel like I ‘made it.’ Knowing the deep connection my pieces help to strengthen is such an incredible honor.
One of my favorite collections is Bound by Love. This collection embodies the most sacred connections in our lives—those strengthened by deep, messy, unconditional love. Whether it’s showing up on the hard days or being vulnerable, these pieces represent the enduring bonds we share with our loved ones. Creating bespoke pieces for my clients is a true passion of mine, as I love knowing what my jewelry means to them and the connections it represents.
Looking Ahead: The Future of Cinnamon Sticks Designs
As we celebrate this remarkable milestone, I’m excited about what the future holds for Cinnamon Sticks Designs. Plans are underway to expand our offerings to include more fine jewelry, as well as bespoke engagement rings and wedding bands. Creating custom pieces that hold such significant meaning for my clients is something I’m incredibly passionate about. It’s all about the connection—from our first meeting, whether in person or through emails, to the connection that the piece of jewelry represents to them.
A Message of Encouragement
Reflecting on my journey, I want to offer a heartfelt message to aspiring entrepreneurs and creatives: “Don’t let fear stop you! Persistence and a willingness to pivot are essential.” My story is a testament to the power of following your passion and the importance of resilience in the face of challenges. If you have a dream, hold onto it and let it guide you, even when the path seems uncertain.
